Meals

We will occasionally serve snacks, graham crackers will be available for a child who is too famished to function. You will need to notify me if your child has any food allergies.

No gum or food is to be accompanied with your child when dropped at preschool. Parents may provide treats for birthdays and special occasions as long as it is discussed and approved prior to the day it is brought.

[top]

Discipline

Corporal Punishment of any kind will not be used.

It is my hope that your child will be so engaged and busy to be in any disciplinary trouble. However if the occasion arrives, I will let the child know that the behavior they are displaying is inappropriate and is not allowed here. If there is physical confrontation involved the offending party must say sorry and give hugs and is given a verbal warning. If the behavior persists a time out will be awarded with 1 minute per child’s age. If the behavior still persists my best weapon in keeping children in line is saying “would you like me to tell you mother you’re behaving like that?” Most of the time this works. If not I will talk with the parent about it because changing behavior comes best when it’s from mom or dad. I’ve never had to do any more discipline other than the above but if the behavior persists I would shift to chronic behavior policy below.

Chronic Disruptive Behavior

We will make every effort to work with the parents of children having difficulties in child care.  We are here to serve and protect all of our children. Children displaying chronic disruptive behavior which has been determined to be upsetting to the physical or emotional well being of another child may require the following actions:

  1. Initial Consultation.
    1. The Provider may require the parent(s) of any child who attends Future Generations Preschool to meet for a conference.
    2. The problem will be defined on paper.
    3. Goals will be established and the parent(s) will be involved in creating approaches towards solving the problem.
  2. Second Consultation.
    1. If the initial plan for helping the child fails, the parent(s) will again be required to meet with the provider.
    2. Another attempt will be made to identify the problem, outline new approaches to the problem, and discuss the consequences if progress in not apparent.
  3. Suspension.
    1. When the previous attempts have been followed and no progress has been made towards solving the problem, the child may be suspended from the preschool indefinitely.
    2. Future Generations Preschool may immediately suspend a child at anytime he/she exhibits a behavior which is harmful to him/herself or others.
    3. A parent may be called from work at anytime the child exhibits uncontrollable behavior that cannot be modified by the Future Generations Preschool staff.  That parent may be asked to take the child home immediately.  Suspensions from the preschool program may vary from a few hours to an indefinite period.
